A collage of 6 different brands of barefoot boat shoes, each with a wide anatomically shaped toe box

Boat shoes have made a comeback! And honestly, I’m not sad about it. I love a neutral shoe that stays on well. Boat shoes pair well with all the outfits that you don’t want to look like athleisure, but are still laid back and breezy. They look great on men and women alike, and have the ease of the sneaker but look classier. And if you’ve seen my Instagram feed, are apparently the it-girl shoe of 2026. But you know me. Nothing chic about it if it causes me pain.

So today we are taking the boat shoe trend and making it barefoot! Here are the wide toe box boat shoes that have the same style without the pointy narrow shape.

A top down view of two pairs of shoes next to each other on concrete. On the left is a wide toe box barefoot brown suede boat shoe, and on the right is a conventional narrow pointy toe Sperry boat shoe in the same color. Text is superimposed "Wear this, not that"

Oh, and before we get started, here are some real life outfits I’ve worn out into the world in barefoot boat shoes. Want to see more of this? Follow me on Instagram and check out my But Make it Barefoot Series.

Next to the options below I’ve included the region they ship from, so you know whether to expect duties/fees or not, as well as available sizes and if they’re extra wide friendly. There are also a couple vegan boat shoes here!

A close up of a person's feet in Lems Mariner, a barefoot boat shoe with a wide toe box and zero drop sole, in cocoa colored leather with a matching sole. The view is from the side showing the stitching detail around the toe box, and laced top

Lems Mariner (US) – Sizes Men’s US 4.5-15 or Women’s US 6-12. These are your dad’s shoes. The Mariner is the most like a classic Sperry boat shoe, with a thicker rubber outsole and masculine/unisex vibe. The upper is a nice waxed leather (again, like classic Sperry), and the outsole is light, flexible, and more cushioned than any of the options here. Justin has them and loves them, but I prefer the next option.

A top down view of a person in Peerko Tala boat style barefoot shoes in tan leather. They are tying the laces on the left shoe, while both feet are resting on a wooden bench

Peerko Tala (EU & US) – Sizes EU 36-43. For me, the Tala better captures the 2026 more feminine take on the boat shoe. They are more flat/loafer than sneaker, with an understated sole and monochromatic details. They are slimmer than the Lems Mariner and Magical Shoes Galeon (below), so not suitable for extra wide feet. But the toe box has good space above the toes. I wore mine all over Portugal on a factory visit for the Faye boots.

Also available directly from Peerko in the EU where you can use code ANYASREVIEWS10 for 10% off.

Magical Shoes Galeon (EU) – Sizes EU 36-47. Extra Wide Friendly. These are uber soft, flexible and comfortable. They run short, but overall roomy. I got a size up for length (EU 38), but needed to tighten the laces to keep them secure. I wear them with the optional insole that comes with, and overall find them extremely comfortable. I also love the dark brown suede. These are extra wide friendly! Optional tassel included.

These ship from the EU, but if you need to return from the US you can ship it back to a US address.

A pair of Baer boat shoes with a wide toe box and minimalist outsole being worn outside in the fading sun. They are brown leather with white stitching and brown laces.

Baer Luzy (EU) – Sizes EU 36-44.5. Baer makes both barefoot and non-barefoot (but anatomical) shoes. The Luzy is a barefoot option. They run on the long side, but I did not size down. The toe box width is average, so a size down might have been too narrow for me. With socks and tighter laces they are a good fit. Style wise, I prefer these over the Lems Mariner but the waxed leather upper is similar.

Top down and tilted view of a pair of black boat shoes from Dolfie Paradise with a wide toe box, laced edge, and stitching details

Dolfie Paradise (EU) – Sizes EU 36-47. These are a boho take on the boat shoe with stitching details and an optional tassel. They have a thicker sole, similar to Lems (but not as light or flexible). They have a chunkier vibe, and unique flavor that I love about Dolfie. Though to be honest, the laces are super annoying and won’t stay tied!! I also think I would prefer the brown color. But I’ve worn them surprisingly a lot the last 6+ months.

Close up toe box view of a pair of Flamingos Life Zero Boat shoes with a wide toe box and flat outsole

Flamingos Life (EU) – Sizes EU 36-46. Flamingos Life recently launched their first barefoot shoes on preorder, so this is a brand I haven’t yet tried (they used to make only standard shoes). Their Zero Boat shoes are really cute, and look nice, but I have no firsthand experience with them. I’ve been waiting for them to come in stock before I make an order!

A person sitting on a wooden stool with their legs and feet resting on the seat. hands are held around one leg and on their feet are a pair of Feelgrounds Docks, a canvas barefoot boat shoe with a wide toe box.

Feelgrounds Docks (EU) Sizes EU 35-49. The first vegan option on the list! The Dock is made of cotton canvas, which is light and breathable. They have a generous toe box width, but it’s not quite extra wide.

A low angle view of a person in a skirt wearing Groundies Tide barefoot boat shoes in brown leather with classic leather lacing. The left foot is rested on the heel so the outsole tread is visible.

Groundies Bay & Tide (EU only) – Sizes EU 36-43 (Bay) and EU 36-48 (Tide). These models are only available to customers outside the US, so I have not been able to try them. But my experience with other models on the same sole is that they run quite long and I sized down (in the Brisbane loafer).

A top down and slightly side view of pair of vegan barefoot boat shoes from Clotsy with tassles eyelets, and a wide toe box

Clotsy (EU) – Vegan option! Sizes EU 36-42. These are made of a faux suede material and have that ballet flat vibe like the Peerko Tala. The toe box is a bit narrower than I like to see in a barefoot shoe, so I would say best suited for slimmer feet. But they’re cute and flexible! For reasons I’m not entirely sure of, I ordered a size 36 instead of my usual 37. So they are short for me and a 37 would be a better fit.
