Many people are able to continue to use their barefoot shoes for casual sport play! Our personal favorites are the:
- Vivobarefoot Primus Trail for all outdoor sports
- and any Xero Sneakers for indoor sports!
But here are some more options for specific sports. And there are more foot-friendly sport shoes in the works!
- Baseball/Soccer
- NaturAthletics cleats (indoor & outdoor option).
- Prevolve Footwear (custom cleats)
- Vivobarefoot Primus Trail (outdoor)
- Code Footwear – these are fully custom and quite pricey.
- Basketball/Court Sports

- Uncivilized Sneakers (men’s sizes)

Hi Anya 🙂 Was looking for sports shoes for kids but Natur Athletics was not successful in their kickstarter (which is super sad for all of us!). I hope they get their funding soon. In the meantime, any suggestions for kids sports shoes? Particularly one that may be good on the field for soccer or similar sports.
My son has worn the Vivobarefoot Primus Trail as his outdoor soccer shoe for a few years now. They do the job just fine for him! I think they’re the next best until Natur Athletics is able to ship product.
I have low volume feet and a rather narrow heel, while my foot is wider towards the toes. Toe are plateau/ mountain shaped . I‘m also a woman with size 44, so often need men‘s. I like the look of Xero nexus and primo and the fact that they have a bit of cushion. Do you think these would be a bad fit for my foot?
Any better alternative?
I want to mostly wear them for the gym (boot camps) and casually walking in the city since I prefer to run in Altras.
I like the Nexus! They might be a little high volume for you in men’s sizes, but still worth a shot I think. And you can try adding an insole.
Thank you, Anya! Are the Prio ones lower volume? And do you know what the difference is between the Prio and the Prio neo?
The Prio Neo is the updated version, the Prio won’t be restocked. I’ve had both and the Prio is lighter, softer, better fit (closer around the heel, wider in the toe box). I also think they’re more breathable. The Prio Neo is a little lower volume than the old Prio, but still not a low volume shoe. However they are adjustable with laces.
Thank you! That’s very helpful. I will order the regular Prio 🙂
I ordered the Prio. I really liked how the shoe was made, but unfortunately the fit doesn’t work for me at all. They are way too wide in the middle foot. And maybe also too high volume. I had to cinch the laces so much that the fabric bulged up significantly. Is this the shape for all Xeros?
My foot is widest in the toe area and pretty narrow in the heel, so maybe the brand just doesn’t work for me.
Do you have any recommendations for other brands for gym shoes that work for normal/ narrow heel and midfoot, wider toes, and low volume?
Was it the Prio Neo, or the older Prio? It’s definitely been typical of Xero shoes for a while to be quite wide throughout, but they are slowly improving the fit with their new models to be a little wider in the toes and slimmer through the rest. I’ve found the Prio Neo and Forza to be a better fit on your type of feet. However, the TYR Squat University collab shoes might be the best. They are wider in the toe box than Vivobarefoot (in women’s sizes), but lower volume.
