A collage of extra wide toe box barefoot shoes. There is a search bar in the middle that reads "the best shoes for really wide feet"

Have you been blessed with beefy paws? Most shoes out there, even the ones labeled as wide, are not made to truly fit the shape of your feet. We’re here to stop your suffering in too-narrow shoes!

These are the best sneakers, boots, and sandals that actually fit even the widest feet out there! Tried, true, and tested by a real wide-footed human.

Why it’s so hard to find shoes that fit

A collage of 3 shoes side by side with a foot superimposed over the top to shoe if it fits inside the shoe. First is a standard shoe, and the pinkie and big toe are hanging off the sides. Second is a wide shoe and the pinkie and big toe are still hanging off the side but there is now a lot more width in the middle of the shoe. 3rd is a foot shaped shoe and the foot fits fully inside the shoe without hanging off at all

Samantha here, the extra wide-footed princess of Anya’s Reviews. I struggled my whole life to find shoes that fit. My feet were always hanging off the edges of the soles and cramping up in tiny toe boxes. It wasn’t until a friend suggested I look at barefoot shoes that I realized most shoes were not shaped like feet at all. Read this for a deeper dive into standard vs foot-shaped shoes.

But that wasn’t the end of my foot woes. Even most of the barefoot shoes I tried, that had a foot-shaped toe box, were still too narrow and hurting my feet. I need shoes that are both foot-shaped AND extra wide. And I know I’m not the only one.

Foot-Shaped Shoes are half the solution

a top down view of two women's feet standing on a wood floor. The left pair of feet have one foot bare and one wearing a black Shapen Poppy barefoot women's dress shoe. The right pair of feet has one foot bare and the other wearing a SHapen Poppy barefoot women's dress shoe in black, wide width to show how the different widths fit different foot types.

Our modern society would like you to think feet should be tiny and compact, but we know better. Strong feet are capable feet. The secret is in understanding yourself, embracing the shoes that fit you best, and saying no to what doesn’t. A shoe might be perfect for one person, and terrible for another.

But because it’s even harder knowing what will work for extra wide feet, we’ve set out to make that easier for you. For the past 5 years I’ve been testing and reviewing shoes, alongside Anya, to uncover the most uncompromising shoes that are not just anatomically-friendly, but also fit the widest of feet – starting with my own.

Find my tried-and-true suggestions here, organized by style of shoe.

A top down view of a person with 1 Softstar Primal Chelsea boot on one foot, and the other foot with just a pair of toe socks to show the shape match. The extra wide toe box chelsea boot in brown leather is handmade in the USA.

Softstar Primal (US) – Definitely one of the widest toe boxes on this list, and they’re sustainably made in the USA! Personally I find them a little shallow over the toes when brand new (my toenails point upwards and are sensitive to pressure from above). But they do break in.

A top down look at a pair of Lang S Kombat leather lace up wide toe box boots. There is a floral utility suit visible at the top of the frame

Lang S. (EU) – These could be a smidge wider, but they’re fully leather and have stretched just enough and molded to my feet. They’re also high volume, which helps my feet to noe feel squished! Read the full review here

Groundies Amsterdam metallic flower sneaker in barefoot plus width for extra wide feet

A pair of canvas high tops with an extra wide toe box seen from the top down, with cuffed light colored jeans hovering above the ankle. Tolos transition barefoot sneakers

Tolos (US) – The latest models from Tolos surprised me with how well they fit! They’re fitted through the arch and heel, so if you have a wide midfoot or flat feet, they might not be for you. But the toebox is very generous. They’re available with a barefoot sole (7mm), or a thicker transition sole (13mm).
