A person's feet standing bare in front of a spread of multiple barefoot loafers with a wide toe box
The best wide toe box loafers that don’t hurt your feet and are still cute.

Loafers have long been one of my favorite styles of shoes. They’re fashionable, practical, and can be worn as a dress or casual shoe. But typically they are really pinchy in the toes.

For years loafers and I never got along because of my foot issues. Until I discovered barefoot shoes that is. Now I don’t need those pointy loafers anymore! I’m in a long term relationship with wide toe box shoes and hurty shoes and I are never ever ever getting back together. 😉

If you’re interested in getting the loafer style without the bunions, check out this list of completely flat and wide foot-shaped barefoot loafers.

Why Most Loafers are Hurting Your Feet

Annotated image of a person wearing 2 different loafers. On the left is a traditional loafer with a narrow toe box, rigid sole, and raised heel. On the right is a foot friendly loafer with a wide toe box, flexible sole, and zero drop outsole.

I have some strong opinions on wearing shoes that hurt my feet (read this post for more on that). But the two biggest beefs I have with the loafers you’re most likely to see are they have a pointy toe box and a heel.

  1. Pointy Toe Box: Most shoes no longer look like feet at all. The pointed tips on your shoes prevent your toes from spreading out which can lead to foot pain AND prevent your body from moving well (did you know we use our big toe to balance?)
  2. Heel: No, they’re not stilettos, but even that small heel on traditional loafers can throw your center of gravity forward and force your body to compensate in awkward ways. Especially if you are susceptible back pain, you might want to consider the heels on your shoes.

And the wild thing is, you find these painful features even on brands considered to be”comfort” brands. So I now look for foot-shaped shoes, that actually mirror my anatomy.

My Favorite Barefoot Loafers

Be Lenka Loafers

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 | Ships from EU or US

When shopping Be Lenka directly, you can use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off.

My personal favorite Be Lenka loafers are the Viva (above left) with a slimmer fit, and the Buena (above right) with a penny loafer strap and a wider fit. Both come with a removable insole, which makes them work well for both lower volume and higher volume feet. I love both!

The Viva loafers do have a sharper edge, particularly in the black, and they gave me some pretty good blisters. So I recommend using moleskin if you have sensitive skin. But they are so pretty that it’s well worth it in my opinion!

By Anya Loafers

Leather | Sizes EU 34-45 | Ships from US

I wanted a simple loafer that was sophisticated and elegant, without unnecessary doodads and that came in a variety of neutrals. So I just developed my own! 😀 The Dalia and Yasemin are fully leather shoes (upper, lining, insole, outsole) with a thin layer of rubber on the bottom.

While I love both, I have a favorite. The Dalia has just a few extra details that make them one of my personal favorite dress shoes. For one, I think the style is perfection and will always look chic no matter how trends change over time. And second, they come up a little higher on the foot and fit more securely on thinner feet than the Yasemin.

A woman standing out in the street among fall colored leaves wearing a sweater, jeans, and wide toe box Dalia barefoot loafers from Anya's Shop in taupe nubuck color.

They do take a little bit of break in time to form to your foot, but they breathe well, are repairable, and really just get better with age. Both are best suited for average to wide feet, not ideal for narrow or extra wide. If you have low volume feet you might consider adding a tongue pad.

Shapen Loafers – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather | Sizes EU 35-44 | Ships from EU

You can use code ANYAS10 for 10% off full-priced items, or code ANYA5 for an extra 5% off sale items. But Shapen doesn’t accept returns outside the EU.

Shapen has two loafer styles – one is the Sheen (above left) that has an extra wide fit and a shiny patent leather. They feel stiffer because of the patent leather, but the toe space is lovely. They fit me best with an extra insole.

A woman in a white shirt with black stripes sitting on a chair. her ankles are crossed and she has Sapen Sheen patent leather barefoot loafers on her feet. She is smiling at the camera with her hands resting on her legs.

The other is Versa, which comes in two widths. Regular is average width, Wide is extra wide fitting. I am wearing Regular and Samantha wears Wide. The fun thing about these is that the metal bit is interchangeable, so you can order whatever style you like best!

The leather on the Versa is softer than the Sheen, but I did find that the ankle opening is on the wide side and my feet almost want to slip out.

Peerko Trim

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 | Ships from EU

When shopping in the EU, you can use code ANYASREVIEWS10 for 10% off – just note that they don’t accept returns outside the EU. Which is why we also carry them in the US!

The Peerko Trim is a loafer for people who want toe space AND pizazz. They are light, flexible, and low profile but with some sparkle and fun patterns. I think they still can be used as a professional shoe, depending on your outfit. But they also work well as a casual everyday shoe.

They have an average to wide fit (probably not suitable for extra wide feet) and stay on my narrow heels pretty well. The volume is medium to low, so also not best for a high volume foot.

Paidal – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather | Sizes UK 3-9 | 2 Widths | Ships from UK

Paidal is a special brand that makes very classy high end barefoot dress shoes. Their two loafer styles come in both a regular and a wide version. They are very thin and minimal, with a glove-like barefoot feel.

Dolfie Paradise Duke TS

Leather | Sizes EU 36-47 | Ships from EU

The Dolfie Paradise Duke is actually a unisex model and it comes on a fairly thick sole. The first version of this was a miss for me – the heel was too wide and the sole too stiff. But they’ve just released an updated version (Duke TS) that should resolve some of my original concerns. I have not yet tried them, so don’t have more detailed information to offer. But I’ve had a good experience overall with Dolfie and love the style of their shoes.

Fit has been true to size for me with a shape that leans wide and roomy.

Ohne Project – Extra Wide Friendly

Vegan | Sizes EU 36-37 | Ships from EU

Use code ANYAOP10 for 10% off

The Ohne Project loafer is a statement. They have a moccasin style top stitch, which makes for a nice amount of room above the toes. They come with multiple insole options depending on how high volume your feet are or how much cushion you want. My one complaint is that the fringe is curling up more than I’d like.

The fit is true to size and wide to extra wide friendly.

Fleeters Plum

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 | Ships from EU or US

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off

These Fleeters Plum loafers are so 90s-esque, with a chunky outsole and fringe. The leather upper is really soft and they have a moderately cushioned insole so have a bit more to them than most barefoot shoes.

Groundies Brisbane

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 | EU only

I love the Groundies Brisbane, but unfortunately it’s not available in the Groundies US store at this time. So this one’s for those of you in other parts of the world! Brisbane is a very classic loafer style, in fact it’s actually one of my favorites on the market right now.

This model does run long and I sized down one. They are medium width.

Zeazoo Cheetah

Leather | Sizes EU 35-42 | Ships from EU

Use code ANYASREVIEWS to get 5% off.

The Zeazoo Cheetah driving loafer comes in a bunch of different colors and detail options. They have that rubber heel piece on the back so that they don’t scuff when driving.

They can be dressed up for more formal outfits or casually with denim. They are really comfortable for being a dressy shoe!

They are medium wide, but the moccasin top stitching makes them adaptable to a lot of different foot shapes. Zeazoo also does custom sizes and color combos by request.

Zaqq Qerp

Leather | Sizes UK 4.5-12.5/EU 37-48 | Ships from Germany

Zaqq Qerp loafers are so soft and feel great on my feet. They run true to size and have a medium width toe box – so not suitable for extra wide feet. But I like the classic styling of them with the metallic braided details. The

Ruby Workshop

Leather | Sizes EU 36-43 | Handmade in Turkey

Use code ANYASREVIEWS35 for 15% off

Ruby Workshop is an Etsy shop that makes loafers and flats in lots of colors. They are simple leather shoes in what I would call middle quality leather, but feel light and soft. They are a little high volume for me and fit a wide toe box. You can see in the pictures above that they are also wide through the heel, so will overall be best for thick, high volume feet.

They are more affordable than a lot of other barefoot shoes, which is a plus, and can be dressed up or down.

Magical Shoes Pienza – Extra Wide Friendly

A woman's feet standing at an angle in a pair of Magical Shoes Pienza loafers with optional fringe detail and a wide toe box

Leather | Sizes EU 37-47 | Ships from EU or US

Get 10% off with code ANYA

Magical Shoes Pienza is super lightweight and flexible, like everything from Magical Shoes! This unisex style comes in mutliple shades of soft leather or suede and can easily take you from casual to dressy. The fringe is removable in case that’s not your vibe.

Men’s Wide Toe Box Loafers

Sullivent – Extra Wide Friendly

Leather | Sizes EU 39-48 | Ships from US

Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off

Sullivent dress loafers are high end Spanish-made shoes that will last you for years. They feature some excellent toe space, and a faux heel design that blends right in with formal businesswear.

All these shoes are made-to-order, so keep that in mind before ordering, but they’re worth the wait!

Read our full Sullivent review here for all the details on sizing, fit, and more!

Oaka Studio – Coming Soon!

Leather | Sizes US Men’s 8-13 | Ships from US

Use code OAKAANYA for 15% off. These will be available November 2, 2026.

We really like the style of these Oaka loafers and the leather is very nice. But Justin found that the vamp is too low volume for him and presses into his feet. He’s going to see if they break in more, but wishes that they had a little more volume.

Birchbury Emhurst

Leather | Sizes US Men’s 7-16 | Ships from US

These Birchbury loafers have a nice fit with a decently cushioned outsole (great for those who don’t want a full barefoot feel), but they ran small for Justin and he needed to size up. The style is just ok – nothing that stands out but also not bad.

      1. Kira Sundermann

Hey! Anyone know what brand the pair down the bottom of the post on the picture where it says “loafers but make it barefoot” are? Can’t find them in the article.
        Thanks!

  1. Looks like most are good for average to high volume. Are there are loafers that work for people with narrow heels and prone to heel slippage and/or lower volume? I didn’t see that mentioned for any of these. Thanks.

    1. It’s true that most are not best suited for low volume. But the ones that have worked best for my low volume, narrow heeled feet are the Dalia (these are actually the only ones in this article that I don’t use a tongue pad or heel grip with). Also new on the market is the Be Lenka Viva. They have an even slimmer heel and work well enough on my low volume feet with just a little bit of space above the feet. The only thing is that the opening cut my heels really bad and I highly recommend wearing them with a heel grip.

  2. Many of these are not available any longer. This looks like a recent list. Is there an updated version? Thank you.

    1. Only one is not currently available – the Vivobarefoot Opanka (there were a couple other dead links that I’ve just updated though). I am finding out when those are coming back. But there are two additional loafer models that came out this spring that I am going to be adding to this article this week! One you can find a mini review of here, or check back in a day or two!

  3. Hi Anya,
I love your Yasemin and Dalia loafers and would like to buy the Yasemin one for work. As I‘m living in Germany and returns are difficult, I would like to know if you think that they will fit me in size 36 as I have rather wide feet (lenghth of 22 cm and a width of 9,1 cm)? The width in the size chart is a bit smaller than my foot. I would really appreciate your support!
Thanks a lot and kind regards

    1. Hi Kathrin! Unfortunately I think you might find them a little narrow as they are best suited for average width feet.

  4. Have you tried any of the wide toed shoes made by Dwarves ? The style is just what I am looking for but I didn’t see this brand in any of your reviews.

Not all of their shoes are wide toed box or barefoot style but they have several cute styles that are.

    1. Thanks for putting this on my radar! This particular model looks like it has a generous toe box, but also has a heel. So it would be a wide, but not barefoot model. We’ll look into them more!

  5. Do you know any stylish loafers for NARROW feet for MEN? Everything I have seen either looks ‘funny’, is too wide, or is for women.

    1. Hello, unfortunately I can’t think of a men’s loafer that is best for narrow feet. However, The Drifter Leather makes custom loafers for any foot dimensions so those might be your best bet.

  6. Thanks as always for the wonderful reviews and details… makes buying shoes online that much easier! I always appreciate Samantha’s POV especially as I’ve discovered my feet seem to be about the same level of wideness 😊 My question this time is, I have the Shapen Orchid in 37 wide; does the Shapen Versa fit similarly? According to the measurements it seems like they also run longer (I’m usually a 38)?

    1. So glad the reviews are helpful! Samantha does have the same size in both Orchid and Versa, but the Orchid fits bigger and she actually wishes she had a size up in the Versa (which would be her usual size). Versa is more true to size than Orchid, even though the size charts are similar. The Orchid and Poppy fit bigger than you would expect, because they are open in the middle and not as enclosed around the foot.

  7. Raum goods now also have a new barefoot slip on model ‘The Mecca’. It is a mocassin/boat shoe style. I have a pair. They look great and are very comfortable and they have the new type of grounding sole which is waterproof (not leather soled).

  8. Anya – For your feet, do the Be Lenka Viva or the Shapen Versa work better? I love the style of both of these. It seems your feet and mine are very similar characteristics – narrow heel, low volume, just ever-so-slightly wide. I have the Viva and like them lot, they are so much better than the conventional loafers I was wearing previously. I will definitely try out your Dalia loafers as well.

    1. The Viva fits me better than the two, because the volume is lower and the heel is narrower. The Dalia also fits me well, but it’s a little wider than I need through the midfoot.
