Have you been blessed with beefy paws? Most shoes out there, even the ones labeled as wide, are not made to truly fit the shape of your feet. We’re here to stop your suffering in too-narrow shoes!
These are the best sneakers, boots, and sandals that actually fit even the widest feet out there! Tried, true, and tested by a real wide-footed human.
Why it’s so hard to find shoes that fit

Samantha here, the extra wide-footed princess of Anya’s Reviews. I struggled my whole life to find shoes that fit. My feet were always hanging off the edges of the soles and cramping up in tiny toe boxes. It wasn’t until a friend suggested I look at barefoot shoes that I realized most shoes were not shaped like feet at all. Read this for a deeper dive into standard vs foot-shaped shoes.
But that wasn’t the end of my foot woes. Even most of the barefoot shoes I tried, that had a foot-shaped toe box, were still too narrow and hurting my feet. I need shoes that are both foot-shaped AND extra wide. And I know I’m not the only one.
Foot-Shaped Shoes are half the solution

Our modern society would like you to think feet should be tiny and compact, but we know better. Strong feet are capable feet. The secret is in understanding yourself, embracing the shoes that fit you best, and saying no to what doesn’t. A shoe might be perfect for one person, and terrible for another.
But because it’s even harder knowing what will work for extra wide feet, we’ve set out to make that easier for you. For the past 5 years I’ve been testing and reviewing shoes, alongside Anya, to uncover the most uncompromising shoes that are not just anatomically-friendly, but also fit the widest of feet – starting with my own.
Find my tried-and-true suggestions here, organized by style of shoe.
Extra Wide Boots

Be Lenka (EU) – A very wide toe box, tend to be on the low-medium volume side. Excellent winter options! Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off (returns are only accepted from the EU & US).
Many Be Lenka boots are also in the US at Anya’s Shop, for easier shipping!

Groundies Barefoot+ (US) – I really love these. They’re roomy and super flexible.

Gaucho Ninja (UK) – Extra wide, really high quality!
ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off

Shapen Barefoot (EU) – All Shapen boots have an extra wide fit! These also tend to be high volume, which gives your feet even more space to spread out.
ANYA5 for 5% off, or shop Shapen boots at Anya’s Shop here

Softstar Primal (US) – Definitely one of the widest toe boxes on this list, and they’re sustainably made in the USA! Personally I find them a little shallow over the toes when brand new (my toenails point upwards and are sensitive to pressure from above). But they do break in.

Lang S. (EU) – These could be a smidge wider, but they’re fully leather and have stretched just enough and molded to my feet. They’re also high volume, which helps my feet to not feel squished! Read the full review here
Use code ANYALANG for 5% off directly, or shop Lang S at Anya’s Shop in the US.

Freet (US) – Lots of practical options from Freet! In general we recommend sizing up in order to get an extra wide fit. Use code AnyaFreet for 10% off.

Origo Adventurer (US) – A heritage quality boot with all the barefoot goodness we love in a barefoot boot! Read more about these here.
Use code ANYA for 10% off

Lems Chelsea Suede (US) – this is the widest fitting Lems boot, with lots of space in all directions. The Chelsea Waterproof, Chelsea Tuff, and Boulder boot line is also quite roomy (built on the same Widest shape) but not quite as generous as the Chelsea Suede.

Annika Barefoot (EU) – A very wide toe box chelsea boot that has a great shape for feet with a narrower heel and wide toes. There are a few insole options make these work for all foot volumes! Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off

Wildling Ranidae (EU) – The only Wildling shoe that fits me well! Read the full review here. Use code AWN_ANYA_S for a one-time free shipping offer.
If you live outside the US, shop Wildling Ranidae in the EU here

Ahinsa (EU) – This vegan brand offers an extra wide option in several models that has an extremely wide toe box. They are labeled xWide.
Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off.
Extra Wide Sneakers

Shapen (EU) – The ReWind sneakers feel like wearing slippers; they are buttery soft and a total dream. One of my personal faves! Review the review here!
Use code ANYA5 for 5% off the Shapen EU store (note they don’t accept returns outside the EU). Or shop Shapen at Anya’s Shop in the US for easier North American access.

Groundies Barefoot+ (US) – One of my favorite sneakers because they aren’t tight anywhere, and they have a wonderfully thin flexible outsole.
Outside the US you can shop at Groundies EU, where there are even more options.

Wyde Footwear (EU) – These are really wide, and high volume! They also have a bit more cushion than many other barefoot shoes, while still retaining the extra wide fit.
Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off.

Tolos (US) – The latest models from Tolos surprised me with how well they fit! They’re fitted through the arch and heel, so if you have a wide midfoot or flat feet, they might not be for you. But the toebox is very generous. They’re available with a barefoot sole (7mm), or a thicker transition sole (13mm).
Use code ANYA10 for 10% off.

Bohempia (EU) – These hemp sneakers come in regular and wide, and the wide option is plenty wide for me!
Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 10% off the EU store, or shop Bohempia at Anya’s Shop in the US.

Dada Brand (EU) – The soles on these only look thick, they’re an illusion to give off that perfect chunky vibe while still being flexible.

Lems Primal Zen (US) – Especially the suede version is very roomy and also have a square shaped toe box so they work for most foot shapes.

Barebarics (EU) – These sneakers have a more robust, thicker sole and lots of toe room!
Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off Be Lenka EU. You can also find some of the Barebarics bestsellers at Anya’s Shop in the US.
Extra Wide Women’s Dress Shoes

Shapen Wide width (EU)- I love so many of the dress shoes from Shapen, and they are definitely my top choice for looking fancy. The Poppy is a little more snug around the opening than Orchid, but can break in.
If shopping in the EU, use code ANYA5 for 5% off (note that returns are not accepted outside the EU). If shopping in the US, find Shapen at Anya’s Shop here.

Be Lenka Buena (EU) – Many of Be Lenka’s dress shoes are on a narrower sole, but not these! The Buena fits my foot shape well, but does have more of a bean shape so might not be suitable for those with longer outer toes.
Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off directly from Be Lenka, or you can find the Buena laofer at Anya’s Shop here.

Jenon Leather (EU) – I adore my Jenon Leather shoes. I can wear the standard size with the insole removed, and they also offer customizations for hard-t0-fit feet. Read the full review here
You can find the Villet Mary Jane at Anya’s Shop (restock coming).

Groundies Barefoot+ (US) – The Lily in Barefoot+ are a wardrobe staple. Classy, without the pinched toes! Read more details here.

Softstar Shoes (US) – The Primal line from Softstar has an extra wide toe box and you can even customize them with your choice of leather and strap style! If you have “tall toes” you’ll likely need to stretch the toe box vertically since they can feel tight from above. Read more about these here.
Extra Wide Men’s Dress Shoes

Groundies Barefoot+ (US) – The Palermo and Milano models come in the Barefoot+ width and are very generous in the toe box. Also, really soft and nice looking.

Tomás Sullivent (US) – A high-end dress shoe built to last, and designed for extra wide feet.
Read our review here for all the details on this men’s dress shoe brand.
Extra Wide Sandals

Feelgrounds Seaside (EU) – Easily one of my most worn summer sandals two years in a row. I love the cork footbed and really spacious toe box. They’re just so easy to wear and go with everything. Read more details here.
Use code ANYA5 for 5% off your first purchase

Crupon Sandals (EU) – Extra wide models only. I have a million good things to say about my Crupon sandals. They have that charming old world feel and they just get better with age. Read all the details in this full review.
Use code ANYA for 10% off.

Butterfly Your World (US) – These are handmade in the USA, and come in multiple width options. I am wearing Wide comfortably, but there is even an X-Wide!
ANYA10 for 10% off

Origo Huaraches Wide (US) – My feet are technically a little too wide for these, but the leather can stretch so much and the weave makes them not feel too restrictive on my toes. The slip-on huaraches are one of my most worn shoes!
Use code ANYA for 10% off

The Drifter Leather (EU) – These are custom made from my foot tracing and measurements. They’re lightweight, buttery soft, and I adore all the little details.
Read Anya’s guide to ordering from The Drifter Leather here.

Toetem (US) – Choose Extra Wide for the widest toe box option. Read our full Toetem review here.
Use code ANYASREVIEWS for 5% off

Shamma Sandals (US) – You’ll find a nice wide forefoot on these, but not quite as wide a Toetem above. My feet hang off the edges a little. There’s good reason these have been our top choice for adventure sandals for several years!
Use code ANYASREVIEWS2023 for 10% off

Wildsole Sandals (UK) – I love these lightweight do-everything sandals. They’re really minimal and can be made in a custom size just for you.

What recommendations do you have for people with extra EXTRA wide feet? Looking at the size chart of nearly every brand on this list and they are STILL too narrow. At 21.5 x 10 cm it feels like there are only 2-3 brands I can buy at all… 🙁
That is a pretty wide ratio you have. My feet are a little longer than yours, I wear a 38 most of the time, but I do think some of these would fit you. Width in size charts don’t tell the full story and can often be misleading. I encourage to read this about for more detail about size charts.
You would likely fit into Softstar Primal and Wyde. Another option is to look into custom barefoot shoes.
Thanks! Basically the only shoes I have found that fit are Softstar Primal Wide, Butterfly Your World XWide, Flux Adapt Runner, and, oddly enough, Whitin Barefoot Wide. I’ve tried custom several times and so far every time has been a fail – they seem to refuse to believe my measurements and send shoes that are either still too narrow or are wide enough but way too long. 🙁
I am sure some of the shoes that look like they’d be too narrow by the size chart WOULD fit, but with shipping, tariffs, and not truly free returns I am hesitant to try them…I’ll check that article out though and maybe muster up the courage to try a few.
I am mostly just bellyaching because I really miss being able to have VARIETY in my shoe collection as fashion is such a creative outlet for me. Unfortunately once you go barefoot and stop squishing your extra wide feet into extra narrow torture devices, you just can’t wear any of your old favorite shoes anymore…
My feeet swell up I some times have to sit with my feet up till they go down
Anya reviews the best sandals in the world. Appreciate the discount code as well
As another wide-footed barefoot shoe wearer, I so appreciate the attention given to truly wide-fitting shoes. Even within these selections, not all would fit my feet, because my little toes do not curve inward towards the center of my feet, but stick uncompromisingly outward in a true fan shape — the Softstar Primal shape.
However, it’s a luxury to even concern myself with that detail, given that for most of my life, the only shoes available to me were conventional, tapered-toe shoes in “medium” width. It amazes me that manufacturers give us different lengths in half-sizes but ignore the fact that feet vary in width as much as in length.
I have bunions and wide feet. Any recommendations? I love these shoes. I haven’t had a comfortable shoe in years. Thank you.
I really like the Lems Primal Zen Suede and Chelsea Suede for extra wide with bunions! Mostly you want to be looking for shoes that won’t pinch or press on the bunion area and are extra wide fitting.
Connie — I have extra wide feet and bunions, and I’ve been barefoot walking for two years. The best thing I did was to try earthing mocassin’s free sun sandal pattern — super quick and easy with a leather punch — I did modify it a bit to fit the width of my foot and avoid the loopy bits to make a more solid looking pucker toe style sneaker-ish mocassin. I glued some rubber soles that I bought from a shoemaker on Etsy. I wear them every day as a high school chemistry teacher walking on concrete….best decision ever. My feet are so happy and I have tried a lot of the widest recommended barefoot shoes, to be disappointed and have to return them because they are still too narrow. I hesitated to bite the bullet and make these but wish that I had done it sooner.
Great list, thank you! Are there any boots or shoes suitable for heavy backpacking and hard mtn biking? I will try the wyde shoes as the real foot brand has stopped production and softstar just don’t feel great for atheletics. I need the wide toe box but still need more footbed protection when biking and heavy backpacking.
Thank you.
The Lone Peak from Altra is quite wide and an excellent backpacking shoe with cushion. The Lone Peak 9 (not the 9+, Waterproof, or any other versions) also comes in a Wide version is select colorways, but even the standard is quite wide. Justin wore them on a multi-day backpacking trip through Yosemite this year and loves them.
This is really helpful! My feet even look just like yours which is a rare thing. We have the same shape and proportions and size. Now I have the list of shoes that I must have. I did get the Lang boots and they are really comfy and nice. I think they will stretch a bit too and will fit my wool socks. The shape is perfect.
Is anyone looking for shoes that can splay their pinky? After wearing five finger shoes, I couldn’t stand my pinky not being able to splay.
Are the shiny black loafers in the cover image also extra wide? I would love to know what they are!
They are indeed! They are the Shapen Sheen.
Really appreciate this article – wide footed women, unite! I don’t know why, but the narrowness of some barefoot shoes really surprised me. I’m a female and have very wide and long feet. Despite us both being, in conventional shoe sizes, the “same” size, my husband has narrower and shorter feet than me. We’re also exactly the same height but I have longer legs- just goes to show being the same “on paper” doesn’t always translate!
All that is to say, most barefoot shoes have been too narrow. The female sections are normally a total write off. Shapen is absolutely fantastic but, being in the UK, the shipping and then customs charges really smart- they worked out almost doubling the cost of the shoes 😭 I’ve only ordered the boots but they’ve been brilliant. I really want to try their new selection of loafers and those furry little trainers- please do a review! 💕
Hi Lel! So glad to hear this resonated with you. Have you seen my list of brands and retailers in the UK? There are at least 3 UK retailers listed there that carry Shapen models (Happy Little Soles for one), so that could potentially save you a lot on import fees! I haven’t tried their furry trainers, but I do have a review of their Shapen Sheen loafer here.
Can any of these accommodate custom insoles? I have very high arches and cannot go without proper support for them. Of course high arches also come with a high instep, so inner height can be an issue too. I noticed there don’t seem to be many on your list for the US.
The Lems Chelsea (US brand) would be a good one for using your own support! They have removable insoles you can swap out for your own and they are a high volume shoe. Also Wyde Footwear would be a good option and they are opening up a US warehouse next month.
What about Panta Sandals (EU)?
Hi! Since they only ship within the EU we haven’t tried them personally, but we have heard good things from our community! They have sizing templates so you can check if they’ll fit your specific foot shape.
Thanks for this article and the recommendations! I’ve had a lot of trouble getting shoes that don’t squeeze my little toe uncomfortably. I tried the softstar primal runamoc (sized up), and the volume was to low for me to be comfy. I currently have Realfoot boots, which are better, but even with more than a thumb width of space in front of my big toe, my little toe gets a little cramped.
Can you recommend anything wider/more toe volume than Realfoot?
Wyde Footwear might be your best bet. They are a different shape than Realfoot, but still very wide, and have more volume.
Do you make a shoe that has a deep toe box. I have R A and have hammer toes , I need extra depth and extra wide shoes that can stretch across the toe box. Thank you. Love the looks of all your shoes.
Hi Brenda, we have a list of stretchy knit shoes here. Freet might be a good choice for you!
