Summertime is when barefoot sandals really shine. There are loads of zero drop, minimalist sandals for casual, athletic, or dressy purposes: you can have your pick! Whether you’re a barefoot runner or just want to maintain healthy feet, choosing barefoot sandals over flip flops and heels will pay dividends back to your body.
Below you’ll find a complete list of barefoot sandals that are zero drop, flexible, and secure to your foot for adults and kids!

Barefoot Friendly Slides
Would you like some slide on shoes for those times you really need to be hands free? In general, slides and flip flops are not considered barefoot friendly because they aren’t secure to the foot. My daughter loves jelly sandals, do you know if there are any barefoot options? Most of the ones I’m finding have at least a small heel. We live in a warm climate so we’re really hoping to get a barefoot version since she’ll get a lot of use out of them. She’s in adult sizes already, a US women’s 6.
Hm, I don’t know of any that are made of that kind of material. You can get a similar style from Zeazoo Kids, it’s called the Marlin and comes in adult sizes as well as kids.
Hi! Besides Oesh, would any of these sandals be good for transitioning to barefoot shoes? Thank you! Love your website.
Bedrock Cairn is a good transition sandal, also Shamma has some thick soled options that are pretty great. Those would be my top two suggestions.
I am looking for sandals that are super flexible, but also have some smoosh/cushion due to a sesamoid issue. Vibram soles are to hard for me. Do you recommend any sandals that might have a softer sole? Thanks so much for starting your company!
Hey! So Vibram makes lots of different types of soles, and some are fairly squishy. For example the Vibram cherry sole that is found on Tikki, Laboo, and Zeazoo is squishy (but thin, only 6mm with insole). If you want something even thicker and squishier I would go with Shamma. They have several thick options all of which are still really flexible.
Love this list, thanks for putting it together! Lots to keep track of and you do a great job of it. In case it helps anyone, I wanted to add to the “no-toe post” list that you can also get Unshoes Custom PT Sleek 2.0 (thinner straps than the Pah Tempe 2.0) for $95.

Hi Anya. Thank you for your AMAZING website and invaluable information. You have helped many lives. I have very similar feet to yours and was wondering if you’d tried the Tara sandals at all? Thank you 😊
Hi! Thank you! I have tried Tara sandals, I got a pair near the end of this summer. They are very pretty and nice. Like other similar huarache sandals I had to do a lot of adjusting – my low volume feet and thin ankles aren’t ideal for that kind of sandal. They are a little prone to sliding around still, so aren’t my top pick.
Thanks Anya. That’s useful information to have. It seems the Chala’s have fitted you pretty well? Did it take you long to get used to the chafing between the toes from the string? And with making extra holes, do you find the Unshoes Saffron to fit well now? Thanks so much for your time 😊
Truthfully the Chala’s are not ideal for my thin feet. While I was able to get them working and I found them a good option for the price (quality is great) they never worked well for hiking. Only walking on even ground. I would recommend them more for people with fuller feet that can fill out the straps better. Unshoes Saffrons are still good! At this point I tend to prefer other metallic pretty sandals because the sole on the Saffron is a little heavy compared to the thin strap. But sometimes the look of the Saffron is what I need – that dainty strap goes with more elegant looks.
I would be stoked to find a barefoot version of the fisherman style (or greek closed-toe) sandal
Thank you very much for the reviews. Just got my Panta sandals Samos and I must say that they are the most confortable sandals I ever had. Before I wore the Earthrunners, but in comparison to the Samos, the laces and sole are way too hard for concrete or other hard surfaces. But still love them too.
Do you know if Gracious May went out of business? Their website is still up and they took my order but I can’t get a hold of anyone and all I received was a robo-email after my order. There is no mention of how long to expect to wait and there is no contact information beyond the email they aren’t responding to and it has been about two weeks. I was hoping you might have better contact information or some insight. Thank you 💜💜💜
We haven’t heard anything unusual with them, and unfortunately don’t have a better contact. We’ll be sure to update our info if we find something out, but my guess/hope is that they’ll get back to you soon via their main contact page.
The Xero Jesse is being discontinued.
It’s being re-released next year. So I’ll try it out and update the article!
What are the darker brown sandals in the top, middle of the first photo collection? I cant seem to find them.
Those are the Super Goats from Shamma Sandals.
I ordered 2 pairs of Shapen sandals. The credit card charge went through on July31st and I received an email from Shapen saying they would ship when the shoes are available. I have not yet received the shoes and Shapen has not responded to my 2 email requests. Are they still in business? Is this typical? Thank for any suggestions. I’ll post again if I hear from Shapen.
I prefer Xero sandals, they’ve had some good BF discounts recently, so I purchased one pair for next summer 🙂
