Summertime is when barefoot sandals really shine. There are loads of zero drop, minimalist sandals for casual, athletic, or dressy purposes: you can have your pick! Whether you’re a barefoot runner or just want to maintain healthy feet, choosing barefoot sandals over flip flops and heels will pay dividends back to your body.
Below you’ll find a complete list of barefoot sandals that are zero drop, flexible, and secure to your foot for adults and kids!

Barefoot Friendly Slides
Would you like some slide on shoes for those times you really need to be hands free? In general, slides and flip flops are not considered barefoot friendly because they aren’t secure to the foot. 81 thoughts on “Barefoot & Minimalist Summer Sandals – The Complete 2024 List”
Are there any minimalist sandals with perhaps a single piece of material that holds the foot and ankle but easy to slip into without using hands (and preferably without a toe post)? Primarily seeking something to effortlessly slip into that’s open-toed for momentary wear.
Hi! Check out the Shamma Numa sandals.
I have high volume feet and really want to transition to barefoot but I have trouble using flat uncushioned shoes which is why I avoid sandals. I got the Chacos but the arch support is too much. What are some transitional sandals that are good for the pool and showers? Seems like oesh Is an option but how do they differ from a regular pair of tevas for example? Anything on the cheap side just for the pool?
Are there any articles here talking about transitional shoes?
Hi there! Teva’s are typically cushioned, have a small heel rise, and some mild arch support (less than Chacos I’d say). Oesh is completely flat, no heel rise, and no support, but they are thicker overall. Those sound like an option for you. Shamma, Bedrock, and Earth Runners also make sandals with a thicker sole. You can read about those and other transition type shoes in this article.
Can you recommend any cute transitional sandals for low volume, fallen arch feet? I am recovering from plantar fasciitis and slowly dipping into minimalist shoes.
Thanks in advance!
Dear Anya,
Which brand and model is the black one in the middle of the “cover picture” (frst one in this article)?
I went throught the entire list and I didn’t see it.
Thank you for all your reviews!
Hi! Those are from Luks Barefoot.
What are your thoughts on the brand Stride Rite for toddlers?
Hi! The “soft motion” line for toddlers is an okay option, but it’s still more “shoe” than they really need at that age. You can find our top baby/toddler picks in this article.
Hi! Looking for a sandal that has a thick enough sole to handle pounding on city sidewalks in the summer for low volume feet. Expecting to do a lot of walking in Tokyo in July!
Hi Jen! The options from Shamma Sandals sound exactly like what you’re looking for!
Do you have any recommendations for inexpensive slip ons/flip flops? I am in and out of the house all day in the summer with my young kids, so I want something for the yard that can go on easily without straps.
Thanks!
For inexpensive flip flops I would just go for those real cheap ones that you can get from big box stores, Old Navy, etc. They’re flat and flexible already.
Just a heads up – I wouldn’t recommend Correct Toes to anyone. Their customer service has been super unresponsive to me (emails and phone calls) and their 30-day used ‘warranty’ only applies to items purchased directly from them (I bought their toe spacers from a local running store and Correct Toes won’t let me return them even though I provided a receipt). It kind of makes sense, but the whole reason I bought Correct Toes is because I wanted to be able to return them if they didn’t work for me and I thought they had great customer service. Considering you can get basically the exact same thing for half the price elsewhere, I wouldn’t recommend paying a higher premium for crap customer service with Correct Toes.
